The official Marvel Twitter account released Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D‘s trailer and announced that its seventh season would premiere on May 27. The show started filming on July 30 and despite COVID-19, ABC has announced that the live-action Marvel series will be launched along with its 13 episodes. Unfortunately, the platform told Deadline last July that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D would end after this final season.
The trailer revealed that Clark Gregg would be coming back as Agent Phil Coulson along with the rest of the cast. Thus, Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Elizabeth Henstridge (Wolves at the Door), Iain De Caestecker (Overlord), Henry Simmons (No Good Deed), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Coco) and Jeff Ward (Channel Zero) are expected in season seven. Actress Chloe Bennet (Abominable), who plays Daisy Johnson/Quake, told Digitalspy that the finale may surprise the audience and even compared it to Game of Thrones’ last season. “I don’t think we’re going to make everyone happy, but they definitely do a really good job.”
As for the plot, the last season ended with the S.H.I.E.L.D. team escaping Chronicom hunters as they were plotting to invade Earth and establish Chronyca-3. Traveling back in time, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D are thrown in 1931 New York City to save their future.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb. According to Deadline, Whedon hinted at an explosive final season and then-Marvel TV chief Loeb added they were about to “build a season that will tie up any threads that are there. To make sure that we come to a conclusion that’s satisfying to the fans, to the cast, to Marvel, and to ABC”.
The series will premiere on May 27 on ABC.
