Madame Tussaud Biopic Series in Development from Andy Serkis

Madame!, a series based on the life of Marie Tussaud, sculptor and founder of the famous wax museum franchise, Madame Tussauds, is in the works. The series is created by Emmy nominee Andy Serkis (Black Panther), as reported by Variety. Imaginarium Productions, a production company co-founded by Serkis and Emmy nominee Jonathan Cavendish (The Ritual), will develop and distribute the series alongside TFI-affiliate Newen Connect. Serkis will serve as the series showrunner and director.

Serkis’s recent producing credits include the Netflix Original film, No One Gets Out Alive, starring Cristina Roldo (Too Old to Die Young). Other projects from Imaginarium Productions include Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, BBC’s Death and Nightingales, and Breathe, starring two-time Academy Award nominee Andrew Garfield (Under the Banner of Heaven) and two-time Emmy Award winner Claire Foy (The Crown). Serkis also starred in recent projects such as The BatmanWhat If…?SAS: Red Notice, Netflix’s The Letter for the King, and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Serkis commented on the series in a statement to Variety. He shared, “This is no straight-up period drama, it is a hilariously crazy, no holds barred, anarchic, punk caper conjured from the curiously twisted mind of a fabulously post-truth executioner’s daughter! Marie knows one thing very clearly – if you’re going to tell your own life story, make it entertaining, even if you have to make it up, and whatever happens, cut out the boring bits…”

CEO of Newen Connect, Rodolphe Buet, also commented on the series and shared that Marie is a “visionary heroine who shook up conventions in the 18th century and whose journey as a strong independent woman managing to build an empire resonates particularly nowadays.”

Madame! will be produced by Cavendish alongside Marie Guillaumond (Demain nous appartient). Newen Connect and Imaginarium Productions have not yet confirmed a release date for the series.
