Kate Walsh To Star In Netflix’s ’13 Reasons Why’

According to Dateline, filming began earlier this week on Netflix’s new series 13 Reasons Why based on the New York Times Young Adult bestseller from Jay Asher.

Asher’s book is a sad story about a boy named Clay who receives a box of cassette tapes from his crush and classmate Hannah, who recently committed suicide. Each cassette tape is left with instructions as to whom is to receive them. On the tapes, Hannah addresses her peers to explain how they were involved in her suicide. Hannah’s tapes are 13 reasons why she killed herself.

Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice) is set to join the cast as Hannah’s mother. Already cast for the series are Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps) as Clay, Katherine Langford as Hannah, Brandon Flynn, Justin Prentice, Alisha Boe, Miles Heizer, Devin Druid, Navarro and Ross Butler.

The 2007 book adaption is set to release 13 episodes to Netflix in collaboration with producer Selena Gomez, director Tom McCarthy, writer Brian Yorkey, Anonymous Content and Paramount TV.

Walsh may be most notable to fans for her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Grey’s spinoff Private Practice, which ran for 6 seasons. Walsh will be playing Hannah’s grieving mother in the adaption, so it’ll be interesting to see how she’ll approach the role as it’s a bit different from a medical drama.

There is still no official premiere date for the Netflix mini-series but with filming underway it’s only a matter of time before the specifics are released.
