Hulu and BBC Unveil Trailer for Bestseller ‘Normal People’ Adaptation

Hulu collaborated with BBC to adapt Sally Rooney’s New York Times bestseller Normal People and unveiled the trailer on Tuesday. The first 12 episodes of the romance drama will be released on April 26 for BBC Three and on April 29 for Hulu.

Irish Oscar nominee Lenny Abrahamson (Room) came back to his home country to direct the six first episodes while Doctor Who director Hettie MacDonald will take care of the last ones. On the other side, Rooney serves as an executive producer for Ireland’s Element Pictures alongside writers Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe.

Daisy Edgar-Jones (War of the Worlds ) stars as Marianne and Paul Mescal (Bump) plays Connell. The pair met in a small town in Ireland but if Connell was popular in high school, he is now forgotten in Dublin Trinity College where Marianne finally found her place in the world. The show explores their complicated yet tender relationship while depicting the discovery of physical intimacy and their melancholic shift of dynamics. Jones shared with Vogue that the show “gives the right weight to the depth of what it’s like feeling love for the first time” and described her instant chemistry with Mescal as a real asset for the series.

The show will first be available on BBC Three, April 26.
