Amazon’s ‘Pretty Things’ to Star Nicole Kidman

The Academy-Award and Primetime Emmy winning actress Nicole Kidman has been announced to star in Amazon’s upcoming Pretty Things, according to Variety. The series will be based on an adaptation of Janelle Brown’s (Watch Me Disappear and This Is Where We Live) novel under the same name. The novel is to be released on April 21 and will be centered around a story between two women attempting to con and deceit others in a wealthy region near Lake Tahoe. Currently, Kidman is set to portray one of the two lead women, however, the character description is still undisclosed. The show will be produced by Kidman and Brown, as well as Per Saari (Big Little Lies) and director Reed Morano (Skeleton Twins and The Handmaid’s Tale) serving as executive producers. 

Kidman has established herself as a key figure on the big screen throughout her career as well as starring in various popular and critically acclaimed television series as well. Kidman is best known for her Golden Globe-winning performance in the crime drama 1995 To Die For, starring alongside Tom Cruise in Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 Eyes Wide Shut, and her Academy-Award winning performance as Virginia Woolf in 2002 The Hours. In addition to her film roles, Kidman has starred in critically acclaimed television miniseries and series. Kidman has starred as Katrina Stanton in the 1989 miniseries Bangkok Hilton in addition to her recent success with her role as Celeste Wright on HBO’s Big Little Lies. For her role as Wright, the actress has won a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress. Kidman is also set to be featured in another HBO series, The Undoing, alongside Hugh Grant (Notting Hill). 

Despite the announcement of Kidman’s casting, there remains little information around the upcoming streaming series. However, Pretty Things will mark Kidman’s first role for Amazon’s streaming service television series and joins another Academy-Award winning actress in Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich and Homecoming).  Although there is no confirmed premiere date, interested fans can check out the upcoming novel which is to be released April 21.
