HBO Max‘s long-promised Friends reunion special has been delayed again. Scheduled to begin production in August, it has now been pushed to new undetermined date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The special, featuring all six cast members, was set to premiere with the launch of the new HBO and WarnerMedia streaming service. Production was stalled on March 18 as the number of coronavirus cases began to spread. Sources detail that a virtual reunion is not an option as all involved want to film in person, via The Hollywood Reporter.
“The whole point of this is to be in the same room,” star Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback) said via The Hollywood Reporter. “That hasn’t changed. And HBO Max is being phenomenally patient and understanding.” Kudrow will join Friends castmates Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Courtney Cox (Cougar Town), David Schwimmer (Intelligence), Matthew Perry (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), and Matt LeBlanc (Man With Plan) for the special. Show creators David Crane (The Class, Veronica’s Closet) and Marta Kauffman (Grace & Frankie) will also participate, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
NBC’s Friends followed a group of New York City twenty-somethings as they traversed life, love, and laughs. The series ran from 1994-2004.
