Backed by ARRAY Filmworks, Ava DuVernay (Selma) will produce and narrate a new docuseries called One Perfect Shot for HBO Max. The series will explore the directors and the innerworkings of iconic movie and television scenes, according to Variety.
In each episode, a director will showcase one shot and the visual tools used to create the moment. The series was also inspired by the Twitter account with the same name.
With a 360-degree look, viewers will be given an immersive look into moviemaking. The show will highlight the obstacles, lessons and triumphs directors had to face along the way. Additionally, the featured directors will present a shot from a filmmaker who influenced them and inspired their featured shot in the docuseries.
To Variety on her role in the project, DuVernay said, “I’ve long wanted to create a series about the art of directing,” said DuVernay. “To chronicle the craft of great filmmakers is a dream come true for me and all of us at ARRAY Filmworks. We’re thrilled that our partners at Warner Horizon Unscripted Television embraced this idea and look forward to fully geeking out over movies with our friends at HBO Max.”
Her work on One Perfect Shot also marks an expansion of her deal with HBO Max as she directed the pilot episode of DMZ, a prospective series based on DC comic books under the same name. The filmmaking docuseries also marks the second unscripted series picked up in the past few weeks. The other project of DuVernay’s that was recently picked up was NBC’s Home Sweet Home, a cultural experiment where each week, two families switch lives and explore challenges of racial, religious and economic variations.
One Perfect Shot will be executive produced with DuVernay, Lee Metzger (The Voice) and Neil Miller (Cloverfield). Bruce Robertson (Eternal) will serve as a co-executive producer along with Sarah Bremner (Bright) and Paul Garnes (Middle of Nowhere) from ARRAY Filmworks, via Variety.
