HBO Europe Releases First-Look Trailer for TV Comedy Series ‘Gösta’

HBO Europe has released the first-look trailer for Lukas Moodysson’s (Show Me Love) upcoming comedy series Gösta, according to Variety. The long-anticipated series was HBO’s first commissioned drama outside of Scandinavia and Moodysoon’s first “foray” into television. Gösta (Vilhelm Blomgrencom) is a 28-year old child psychologist who lands his first job and moves from the city of Stockholm to the small rural town of Småland. Gösta wants to help everybody, even though sometimes things do not go so well.

The cast also includes Amy Deasismont, who plays Gösta’s girlfriend, and Mattias Silvell, who plays his father, Clara Drake, Gustav Berg, Regina Lund, Elisabet Carlsson, and Nidhal Fares.

The series was written and directed by the Swedish filmmaker Moodysson. His previous projects include: Together (2000) and We Are The Best (2013). “I want Gosta to be a mix of comedy and Dostoevsky: as funny as possible and as serious as possible,” Moodysson said. Hanne Palmquist, VP of Original Programming, HBO Nordic and commissioning editor, added: “Gösta is an insightful, fun, multifaceted and bittersweet story that says a lot about the time we are living in, in a way only Lukas can say it.”

“Lukas’ unique voice has established him as a leading filmmaker both in Sweden and worldwide, and his vision for this series makes it a perfect fit as our first original commission from HBO Nordic,” programming chief Anthony Root said. “The unlikely hero at its heart will not only be recognizable to our Swedish audience, but will have resonance with our audiences across Europe, and internationally too – everyone will be rooting for Gösta,” Root added.

The show was produced by Lars Jonsson for Memfis Film. The executive producers for HBO are Hanne Palmquist, Steve Matthews, and Antony Root.

The first four episodes of 30 minutes each will premiere on HBO Europe on July 1, while the remaining episodes will air on successive Mondays.

In the trailer, we can see Gösta, his girlfriend, and his father on a car trip.
