Gina Torres is leaving Suits.
And in the same breath she is joining the cast of The Catch.
TV Guide announced just yesterday that the amazing Gina Torres would be leaving Suits following the season six finale. Torres left with the option to return and cited wanting to spend more time at home as her reason for leaving. But then today TV Guide also reported Torres had signed on to The Catch in a recurring role.
I wish I had her job-finding prowess.
Torres departed from Suits in order to be closer to home. Suits is filmed all the way in Toronto while her home and family is in Los Angeles. So how does her new gig on The Catch fit into everything? Well conveniently enough, The Catch is filmed in Los Angeles so she can live and work in her hometown.
Torres said the decision to leave Suits in order to be closer to home was difficult for her, adding, “I can’t thank USA enough for being so understanding and supporting me in my choice and so I am incredibly grateful. Having said that, I don’t believe for one second it’s the last we’ll see of Jessica Pearson. Not. For. One. Second. And don’t you either.”
Torres released a statement about her departure from Suits in which she said,
“Playing Jessica Pearson has been one of the greatest rides of my career. It isn’t often that an actress gets the opportunity to embody so rich a character. Thanks to [creator] Aaron Korsh’s wonderful writing and his singular vision of Jessica, I believe that together we created a woman who has everything. Real power, wealth, intelligence, intuitive wisdom, humor, unapologetic female sexuality and, arguably, the best wardrobe in all of television.
“Because of all these qualities, I have not only been able to entertain Suits fans but, with much pride and awe, I can say I have also inspired quite a few future Jessicas as well as shined a light on real-life Jessica Pearsons who are out in the world at this very moment, owning their place at the head of the table — not unlike our real Queen at USA/Universal Cable Productions, Bonnie Hammer, a force of nature who has been one of Jessica’s biggest fans and supporters, as well as a true blessing in my own life as an example of what grace in power looks like. And that is a glorious thing.”
So Jessica Pearson may be gone from Suits, but we can rest assured that she will return at some point in some capacity. And for all of us who are Gina Torres fans, we can look forward to catching her in action on The Catch.
The Catch will return midseason on ABC
