Denis Leary’s (The Amazing Spider-Man) Fox series The Moodys won’t be receiving a third season. According to TVLine, the family sitcom, which is adapted from an Australian sitcom titled A Moody Christmas, has been cancelled.
The cancellation news for The Moodys comes only a few months after the second season began airing on Fox back in April. The Moodys, which was pulled from air after only the first five episodes of its sophomore season, returned to air on the network at the beginning of June, via TVLine. The season two finale is set to air on Sunday, June 20.
While the first season of The Moodys was set at Christmastime like its source material, season two was completely unrelated to the winter holiday season. According to TVLine, The Moodys follows a close but slightly maladjusted family as they navigate the different misadventures that come their way.
During its first season, The Moodys garnered close to two million views per episode. However, according to TVLine, the second season’s first five episodes lost almost half their viewers, gaining a little over one million viewers during the premieres. After a gap in the season, episodes of The Moodys changed from airing on Thursday nights to Sunday nights, causing the sitcom to lose even more viewers, leaving recent episodes with only 500,000 viewers.
In comparison to Fox’s other shows, The Moodys is at the bottom of the network’s slate. The series managed to only beat out one other show, the puppet comedy, Let’s Be Real, via TVLine.
Leary plays the head of the Moody household, Sean Moody Sr., and stars opposite Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), Jay Baruchel (Man Seeking Woman), Chelsea Frei (Sideswiped), and François Arnaud (The Borgias). According to TVLine, the series finale of The Moodys will air Sunday, June 2o at 9:30 pm EST.
