Elizabeth Debicki to Play Princess Diana in Netflix’s ‘The Crown’

Netflix’s The Crown has found their Princess Diana, according to Variety. Elizabeth Debicki will be taking on the role in seasons 5 and 6 of the show. Debicki is known for her work as Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby and Ayesha in Guardian’s of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and can be seen in Christoper Nolan’s upcoming feature film Tenet.

The Crown has been capturing audiences since 2016 with Claire Foy (The Girl In The Spider’s Web) playing a young Queen Elizabeth II. The show follow’s the Queen’s life and includes an ever changing cast of characters due to time jumps. It has also been reported that the role of Queen Elizabeth II will be played by Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Maleficent) for the final two seasons.

Debicki takes the role from actress Emma Corrin (Pennyworth, Misbehaviour), who will be playing a younger Princess Diana in season 4 of the series. Seasons 5 and 6 will be the last for the show and will follow the royal family through the 1990s and early 2000s.

The Crown posted on Twitter this past week to introduce the new cast.


According to CheatSheet, fans love the show due to the fact that they get to peek inside more personal stories and the inner workings and emotions of a seemingly perfect group of people. They also enjoy the seamless transitions of the younger characters into the now older cast.

There has not been an official date confirmed for when season 4 will arrive on Netflix, but it is expected to premiere in late 2020.
