Don Mancini’s ‘Child’s Play’-Based Character Chucky TV Series in the Works at SYFY

Chucky is an iconic and recognizable character in the horror world. Thirty years ago, writer and director Don Mancini brought the creepy doll to life with the hit slasher film, Child’s Play. The movie’s popularity led to a franchise of seven movies in total. Now, Chucky will continue to creep into people’s nightmares with his own TV series on SYFY.

“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and SYFY is the perfect network for us,” Mancini said. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

The show could bring back original storylines and characters from the movies. There are limitless opportunities here for Mancini. This is great news for all horror fans who have stuck by the franchise whether it was from the very beginning of it all or even later on. With 30 years worth of Chucky content, there are fans from all ages and decades.

“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,” said Bill McGoldrick, president, scripted content, NBCU Cable Entertainment. “We look forward to working with Don, David, and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the ‘Chucky’ story to television.”

Chucky’s swearing in the movies has led to some of that twisted humor that fans love. Regarding whether or not Chucky would be allowed to curse on SYFY, one of the producers on the show, Nick Antosca, confirmed the answer in his tweet below.

There is no premiere date as of yet, but Chucky fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for the possessed “Good Guys doll” to return.
