Damien Chazelle’s Netflix Series ‘The Eddy’ Casts Amandla Stenberg

Damien Chazelle’s Netflix series The Eddy, has recently added Amandla Stenberg to its cast list for the eight part musical drama. While the actress’ other roles including starring in the film The Hate U Give, based on the YA novel of the same name, and as Rue in The Hunger Games film series.

Expected to debut in 2020, the series will follow a nightclub in Paris, its owner, the house band, and other people that live in and around the city of love. Stenberg is set to play Julie, the teenage daughter of Andre Holland’s Elliot, who shows up unexpectedly, leading him to suddenly come to terms with his past.

In September 2017, it was announced Netflix had given a straight to series eight episode order for the series, with plans to have Chazelle direct the first two episodes and Glen Ballard as composer. Feature dialogue was also confirmed to be in English, French and Arabic.

By February 2019, Tahar Rahim joined the cast of the series, with an announcement claiming Chazelle will direct the majority of the series with Houda Benyamina taking on the rest. Later, actors André Holland and Joanna Kulig joined the cast of the series. Kulig will play Maja, a singer who is resisting committing to Elliot, her on-again-off-again partner.

The series’ official log line expands the story further, reading: “a jazz club in the heart of multicultural Paris faces danger in this musical drama series from la La Land director Damien Chazelle.” Glen Ballard — of Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill and Michael Jackson’s Bad fame — will write all the band’s songs in the series, with Wonder writer Jack Thorne writing several of the series’ episodes.
