D23 Expo: Cast of Star Wars’ ‘Andor’ Present Latest Trailer Ahead of September Premiere on Disney+

The first Lucasfilm project that graced the stage at Saturday’s D23 Expo was the spy thriller, Andor. The highly anticipated Disney+ series kicked off the festivities with the main cast joining Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, on the stage flanked by brand new character posters. Together the cast presented the final trailer for the two-season series. View the trailer below.

Set five years prior to the events of 2016’s Rogue One, the show explores the seeds of the Rebellion being planted across the galaxy. The show stars Diego Luna (The Book of Life, Elysium) who reprises his role as Cassian Andor. Years before his valiant efforts in the Resistance against the Empire, Cassian is a lone man at his wit’s end with the Imperial rule ravaging the livelihood of common folk. Luna was joined by Kyle Soller (Marrowbone, Poldark), Genevieve O’Reilly (The Secret, Tin Star), and Adria Arjona (Father of the Bride, 6 Underground). Soller has been cast as Syril, a nuanced company man of the Empire. O’Reilly returns as political saboteur and covert Resistance supporter, Mon Mothma. Arjona is Bix Caleen, a love interest for Luna’s Andor.

The series also stars Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia, Dune) as Luthen Rael, Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Enola Holmes) as Maarva, Denise Gough (Under the Banner of Heaven, Monday) as Dedra Meero, Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien, Harley Quinn) as robot K-2SO, and Forest Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem, The Butler) reprising his film role as Saw Gerrera.

Andor received a two-season pickup consisting of 24 episodes. Originally set for an August 31st premiere date, the show is now set for a three-episode debut on Wednesday, September 21. Twelve episodes will make up season one. The second season will begin filming next year.

The series is created by Tony Gilroy, director of films such as The Bourne Legacy and Michael Clayton. Gilroy is joined by Susanna White (Our Kind of Traitor, Paradise’s End), lead director Toby Haynes (Being Human, Black Mirror), and Ben Caron (Sharper, The Crown) who are all attached to direct episodes of the series.
