Deadline reports more cast members to officially appear in the first season of the brand new upcoming Netflix TV series Icebreaker. Jade Halley Bartlett (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Accountant) is the creator and executive producer for the show, along with Amanda Lasher (Gossip Girl, Togetherness) as the showrunner.
New casting of the series includes actor Gabriel Tierney (Enola Holmes 2, Rivals) as Aaron, actress Auliʻi Cravalho (Moana, Rise) as Lola, newcomer actor Peter Berry as Robbie, actor Chaneil Kular (Sex Education, Accused) as JJ, actor Devin Craig as Henry (The Sex Lives of College Girls, Queen Sugar), and actor Aidan Shaw (Heated Rivalry, Locke & Key) as Russ.
Icebreaker follows competitive figure skater Anastasia Allen played by actress Daisy Jelley (Geek Girl, How to Date Billy Walsh) and hockey captain Nate Hawkins played by actor Connor Simos as they navigate college, competition, and the fact that they are both forced to share the same ice rink at their college arena due to a facilities mishap. Icebreaker is Simos first credited television role.
The show will be based on the bestselling novel Icebreaker by Hannah Grace (Wildfire, Daydream). Icebreaker spent over 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold over 5 million copies of the book worldwide. Icebreaker is the first installment of the Maple Hills series. Grace will also be an executive producer of the series.
Icebreaker adds to the popularity of other book to TV adaptations of hockey romances including HBO Max’s Heated Rivalry with lead actors Hudson Williams (Yaga, Off Objective) and Connor Storrie (Joker: Folie à Deux, Riley) based on Rachel Reid’s Heated Rivalry novel and Amazon MGM Studio’s Off Campus series starring Ella Bright (Malory Towers, Holmes & Watson) and Belmont Cameli (Along for the Ride, Until Dawn) in season one, based on Elle Kennedy’s The Deal novel.
Unwell Production’s Alex Cooper (Call Her Daddy podcast, Love Overboard) Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre are also executive producers of the show.
Netflix has not announced yet an official release date for Icebreaker. Fans will have to read Grace’s original novel that the series is based on while they wait.
