AMC+ has released the official trailer for its upcoming contemporary mystery thriller YAGA in a press release on September 25. The series stars Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix films, Memento), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek, The Vampire Lestat), Clark Backo (Venom: The Last Dance, Letterkenny) and Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry, Tracker). The eight-episode series will premiere with two episodes on Friday, October 23.
YAGA reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga and follows private investigator Rapp, played by Reid, as he travels to the small coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park, played by Williams, a young heir to a powerful fishery.
During his investigation, Rapp encounters local detective Carson, played by Backo, and university professor Katherine, played by Moss. As the investigation progresses, Rapp finds himself surrounded by a group of mysterious suspects, secret lives and ancient magic.
The newly released trailer features Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette’s (Dogma, City of Angels) cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.”
Additional cast members include Sheila McCarthy (Die Hard 2, The Day After Tomorrow), Megan Follows (Silver Bullet, Stealing the Sky), Ezra Franky (Untamed, Black Thumb), Patrick Gilmore (You Me Her, Travelers), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, American Mary), Hiro Kanagawa (Orphan: First Kill, Altered Carbon), Emilija Baranac (Fakes, Riverdale), Georgia Acken (Lucid, The Sacrifice Game), Anisa Harris (Yellowjackets, The Power) and Sam Krochmal (Fire Country, Voicemails for Isabelle).
The series is based on the hit play by Kat Sandler (Kim’s Convenience, Limetown), who serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. David Frazee (Flashpoint, Endgame) and Rachel Talalay (Hairspray, Tank Girl) serve as co-directors, while Mackenzie Donaldson (All the Lost Ones, The Definites) and Moss also executive produce. Charles Cooper (Wild Cards, Round and Round) serves as producer.
YAGA is a Crave Original series produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media. The series was acquired by AMC Global Media for AMC+ in the United States and is distributed internationally by Sphere Abacus.
Following the two-episode premiere on October 23, new episodes will debut every Friday on AMC+. The season will conclude with a two-episode finale on Friday, November 27.
