B Positive has been picked up for a full season at CBS. With the network giving the series an additional five episodes, the show will have a complete first season consisting of 13 episodes, via Deadline.
Starring Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Annaleigh Ashford (Bad Education, Unbelievable), B Positive was the first new show to debut on CBS’s 2020/21 schedule. It has done well with audiences, and will now be returning to TV on January 7, 2021. Airing on Thursday nights along with other successful sitcoms Young Sheldon and Mom, it was able to garner millions of viewers. It first premiered November 5 2020, with the most recent episode airing last Thursday, December 17.
With an odd couple set up, Middleditch portrays Drew, a an uptight therapist and father who has entered into renal failure. In desperate need of a new kidney, he runs into Gina, an unhinged woman from his past portrayed by Ashford. Hard drinking and a party animal, Gina offers up her kidney and an unlikely friendship is formed. B Positive also stars Sara Rue (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Kether Donohue (You’re the Worst), Terrence Terrel (Room 104), and Izzy G (AJ and the Queen).
The news of the additional episodes were announced via social media when its stars Middleditch and Ashford shared the pick-up with their followers. Ashford posted a video on Instagram of her serenading Middleditch karaoke style with a hot pink microphone. Showing off her pipes, Ashford is an accomplished musical theatre actress. Appearing in several Broadway productions including the musicals Kinky Boots and Sunday in the Park with George, Ashford also won a Tony Award for the play You Can’t Take it With You. Marco Pennette (Ugly Betty), who is also the creator of fellow CBS sitcom Mom, is the show’s co-executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Jim Patterson (The Ranch, Two and a Half Men). Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon) also executive producers.
Returning on Thursday January 7, 2021, B Positive airs at 8:30/7:30 CST.
