The future for CBS’ Doubt does not look bright.
According to Variety the network has pulled the freshman drama from its schedule. The Katherine Heigl series had only aired two episodes before being pulled. Instead CBS will be airing a rerun of Bull in Doubt‘s time slot at 10 pm on Wednesdays. The week after, the second season of Criminal Minds: Beyond Border will take over the slot for its run.
Doubt, created by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, stars Heigl as a defense attorney who begins to fall for a client accused of murdering his girlfriend. The series also features Kobi Libii, Lauren Blumenfeld, Steven Pasquale, Dreama Walker, Laverne Cox, Dulé Hill and Elliot Gould. It is executive produced by Phelan, Rater, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and Adam Bernstein.
Doubt premiered with a 0.8 in the 18-49 demo and 5.31 million viewers, and fell further to 0.6 and 4.03 million viewers for its second episode. Production on all thirteen episodes of Doubt‘s first season was completed back in December, but there has been no word from CBS yet about whether or not the rest of the season will eventually air or be released.
Doubt may be the first new series to be pulled, but it is not the first freshman series this season to show signs of struggling. Back in November CBS decided not to extend Pure Genius‘ episode order past 13, and shows like ABC’s Conviction and Notorious met similar fates.
