‘Calls’: Apple TV+ Releases Trailer for Auditory Series Featuring the Voices of Rosario Dawson, Pedro Pascal, and Nick Jonas

Apple TV+ released a trailer for its upcoming auditory thriller series Calls on Wednesday, proving that the scariest monsters are the ones we cannot see. Containing an all-star cast with the voices of Rosario Dawson (The Mandalorian), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), and Nick Jonas (Scream Queens), the new series is created by Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead), via Entertainment Weekly

The debut trailer for Calls on Wednesday features none of the actual actors’ faces who’ve been cast in the show. Instead, they supply their voices in tense phone conversations as eerie music plays and geometrical shapes and colors dance across a black screen. Audiences for the upcoming series will have to listen closely, as Calls will be completely auditory with none of the actors ever actually appearing in any visual form.

Created by Álvarez, the first season of Calls contains nine episodes with nine different phone conversations. Explaining the series to Entertainment Weekly, Álvarez said, “In Hollywood, you often hear people say they’re doing something that’s never been done before, but it feels great when it’s 100 percent true…There’s no hyperbole here of any kind. As a filmmaker, I thought it was cool to see how I could evoke a similar feel that I usually do in a movie with a closeup, a massive shot of a city, or going through a dark hallway without actually shooting them.”  Álvarez also directed and wrote the entirety of the first season. Each episode will clock in at around fifteen minutes with the various phone calls slowly interweaving to reveal a bigger plot.

With a large ensemble cast, Dawson, Pascal, and Jonas are just a few of the actors lending their voices. It will also feature the work of Aubrey Plaza (Happiest Season), Judy Greer (27 Dresses), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Paola Nuñez (Bad Boys for Life), Karen Gillian (Guardians of the Galaxy), Joey King (Kissing Booth) , Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell), Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), Danny Pudi (Community), Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation), and Riley Keough (Logan Lucky).

Calls will premiere on Apple TV+ on March 19. Listen carefully to the trailer below:
