BBC’s ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ Acquired by Hulu

Deadline reports that Hulu has bought BBC’s six episode comedy-thriller series Am I Being Unreasonable? created and written by Selin Hizli (Land Girls, Appropriate Adults) and executive produced by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Help). Hulu acquired the U.S. rights to the series after BBC had shopped the show at Mipcom Cannes. It will premiere as a Hulu original on April 11.

The series debuted to critical acclaim on September 23, 2022 and has been renewed for a second season on the BBC. It is expected to be a frontrunner in the UK TV Awards season. The comedy-thriller comes from Boffola Pictures and Lookout Point.

Am I Being Unreasonable stars Daisy May Cooper (The Witchfinder, Avenue 5) as her character Nic grieves a secret loss and is trapped in a loveless marriage, her only support coming from her son Ollie, played by Lenny Rush (Dodger, Old Boys). Nic is reinvigorated when Hizli’s character, Jen, arrives but their deep friendship brings up old history and secrets.

The series also stars Jessica Hynes (There She Goes, Spaced), Karla Crome (Hit & Miss, The Level), Ruben Catt (Swiperight, Maxx), Amanda Wilkin (Finding Alice, Gavin & Stacey), Dustin Demri-Burns (Cardinal Burns, All My Friends Hate Me), David Flynn (Proximity, CSI: Miami), and Juliet Cowan (Stuck, Hank Zipzer).

Cooper told Deadline that she her approach to scene improvisation was inspireed by Curb Your Enthusiasm. She was made a household name in the UK after her role in This Country, which was remade for U.S. audiences by Fox.

Hulu has previously picked up UK series such as This Way Up and My Mad Fat Diary and BBC has bought various U.S. Hulu shows in the past as well.

Am I Being Unreasonable is directed by Jonny Campbell (Dracula, Informer), produced by Pippa Brown (The Other One, Bad Education), and is executive produced by Shane Allen (Brass Eye, Staged), Kate Daughton (Life, Toast of London), Campbell, Cooper, Thorne, and Hizli.
