Rob Savage to Direct ‘The Last Days of Jack Sparks’ For Vertigo Films

Vertigo Films is developing a TV series entitled The Last Days of Jack Sparks, based on Jason Arnopp’s comedy-horror novel of the same name. Screenwriter Gaby Hull (Two Weeks to LiveWe Hunt Together) is adapting the book for television and British award winning horror director Rob Savage (Host, Dashcam), who is directing Stephen King’s The Boogeyman, is set to direct, via The Hollywood Reporter.

The Last Days of Jack Sparks is based on the novel in which the main character, Jack Sparks, serves as the story’s posthumous narrator. He is a journalist and internet personality that was researching the occult for his new book. In the book, he was no stranger to controversy as he triggered a storm of angry people on Twitter after mocking an exorcism. This put into motion a series of tragic and mysterious events, starting with a forty-second video featuring chilling footage posted to his Youtube channel that he claims was not done by him. Per the closing line of the book’s description, “nobody knew what happened to Jack in the days that followed – until now.”

The show is being developed by Vertigo Films, a British television and film production company based in London, England. Vertigo Films’ co-founder James Richardson (Monsters) is executive producing and head of development Nathalie Peter-Contesse (Little Monsters) is overseeing development.

“Bringing diabolically wonderful books like Jason’s to the screen is a rare treat,” said director Savage in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He has been working with Vertigo films since he was seventeen years old. “The disturbing, hilarious and terrifying story of Jack Sparks is such a unique take on the genre, one that will give audiences a new reason to fear the dark. Gaby’s uniquely brilliant writing and razor wit make him the perfect collaborator to bring this new nightmare to life and I’m delighted to be working with the batshit Vertigo Films again on this batshit horror odyssey.”

The contemporary, unhinged story that is The Last Days of Jack Sparks has no release date yet.
