‘Baskets’ Renewed for a Third Season

FX wants more of Chip’s Bakersfield clown blues.

The AV Club reports that the cabler has picked up Baskets for a third season. FX Presidents of Original Programming Nick Grad and Eric Schrier made the renewal announcement. Season 3 will debut sometime in 2018.

“This year Baskets has solidified its standing as one of the best comedies on television, building on the momentum of its breakout first season that brought critical acclaim and awards,” said Grad.

Baskets, created by Jonathan Krisel, Louis C.K. and Zach Galifiankis, centers on Chip Baskets (Galifiankis), a man struggling to desperately keep his dream of being a professional clown alive while being stuck in Bakersfield. Along with Galifianakis the series stars Martha Kelly as Chip’s committed friend and Costco insurance employee Martha, and the Emmy-winning Louie Anderson as Chip’s mother.

While season one of the series focused more on Chip’s depression at being in Bakersfield and the state of his life, season two has shown some signs of hope for the Baskets clan. Anderson has been given more to do this season as well, possibly due to his best supporting actor Emmy for season one.

Season 2 of Baskets is currently airing on FX on Thursday nights at 10 pm with the season finale set for March 23. Season 1, which we named one of the top 10 TV shows of last year, is currently streaming on Hulu.
