AMC has released the first teaser trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City season three while also confirming the series will return July 26 on AMC and AMC+, according to a press release from the network. The spin-off stars Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead, Supernatural) as Maggie Rhee and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Boys) as Negan Smith, continuing the story of the former enemies as they navigate a post-apocalyptic Manhattan.
The newly released teaser offers an early look at the next stage of their uneasy partnership as the pair attempts to rebuild life in New York City. Season three will follow Maggie and Negan as they finally set aside their differences to create what is described as the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse.
However, growing chaos throughout the city forces both characters to confront whether they have truly moved on from their pasts or if old wounds could threaten the future of the community they are trying to build. The new season also stars Jimmi Simpson (Westworld, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2, Army of the Dead), Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter), Logan Kim (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Home Movie: The Princess Bride), and Michael Emery (The Following, NCIS).
Season three is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple (The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live), showrunner Seth Hoffman (House, Prison Break), Cohan, Morgan, Brian Bockrath (The Walking Dead, Halt and Catch Fire), and Colin Walsh (Chicago Fire, Fear the Walking Dead).
mxdwn has previously covered AMC’s continued efforts to strengthen the franchise through long-term planning and partnerships. One earlier report focused on AMC’s search for major business partners tied to The Walking Dead brand, highlighting the company’s efforts to secure future rights and expand the franchise beyond the flagship series.
That coverage emphasized how important The Walking Dead remains to AMC’s long-term strategy. The season three renewal continues that direction, allowing AMC to keep building stories around longtime fan-favorite characters while expanding the larger universe.
As of now, AMC has not announced any additional casting or production news, but updates are expected in the coming months as the franchise continues to move forward.
