A piece of good news has hit the TV world this Friday, with AMC announcing it will move the premiere date of Killing Eve‘s high anticipated third season forward by two weeks. The first episode will now air April 12, as opposed to its former date of April 26.
The decision comes in the wake of the international coronavirus pandemic, with audiences around the globe now having significantly more free time on hand to stay in and watch television. “We know how adored this series is and we know how keen people are for great content right now,” said AMC Networks Entertainment Group president Sarah Barnett to Deadline. “[W]ith actors like Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw the results are nothing short of astonishing. We literally couldn’t wait for fans to see it.”
The eight-episode season will be simulcast on AMC and BBC America, respectively. The British spy drama made waves upon its premiere in 2018, capturing American audiences in the process. Following the oddly specific, and at times psychosexual, obsession between MI5 operative Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and highly skilled assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer), the series has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, with Comer taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series last fall.
Killing Eve additionally stars Fiona Shaw and Owen McDonnell, and will add names such as Harriet Walter (Succession), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), and Turlough Convery (Ready Player One) for season three. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who penned the first season and served as an executive producer in the second, will return to her role this season. Suzanne Heathcote (Fear the Walking Dead) will serve as showrunner.
The season three premiere of Killing Eve will air on AMC and BBC America April 12 at 9PM.
