Amazon’s ‘Transparent’ To Air On SundanceTV This Summer

Amazon’s Transparent is no longer completely exclusive to the streaming service.

Deadline reports that SundanceTV will air the first season of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series late this summer. AMC Networks made the announcement at the upfronts in New York. President & General Manager of AMC And SundanceTV Charlie Collier also noted that SundanceTV would be Transparent‘s “exclusive home” in regards to traditional television.

Jill Soloway’s critically acclaimed series premiered on Amazon in 2014 and has gone on to critical acclaim and multiple awards for lead actor Jeffrey Tambor as the transgender lead of the series Maura Pfefferman. Amazon picked Transparent up for fourth season back in May ahead of the season 3 premiere in September. Season 4 is expected to premiere in fall of this year. Returning cast for season 4 along with Tambor includes Judith Light, Gaby Hoffman, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass.

Soloway’s Transparent centers on the Pfefferman family as the father (Tambor) reintroduces himself to the family as Maura. Maura’s new life change causes family secrets to spill out as each of the Pfefferman’s start to re-evaluate themselves and their lives. Along with Transparent, Soloway has the the Kathryn Hahn-starring I Love Dick, which premieres its first season on Amazon on May 12th.

Transparent‘s presence on SundanceTV suggests that other Amazon shows, like Man in the High Castle or Goliath, could join the jump to traditional television while also maintaining a presence on Amazon’s platform. There’s little hope of Netflix or Hulu doing anything like this anytime soon, but never say never.
