Amazon Announces New Series ‘The Horror of Dolores Roach’

Amazon Studios has announced the development of a new horror television series from Blumhouse Production called The Horror of Dolores Roach, according to Deadline. The series is adapted from a Gimlet Media podcast under the same name and is currently in the writing process, conducting virtually during the on-going pandemic. The series will be overseen by showrunner Dara Resnik and the podcast creator Aaron Mark through Blumhouse Productions.

Resnik has past experience working within the horror genre with her creation of the series Home Before Dark on Apple TV+ which premiered its first season on April 3. Mark, on the other hand, wrote the play Empanada Loca which was the foundation for the creation of the podcast and this marks his first project under the deal with Blumhouse Production Company. The Horror of Dolores Roach will also be executive produced by Blumhouse’s own Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, and Jeremey Gold in addition to Gimlet’s Justin McGoldrick and Chris Giliberti.

The Horror of Dolores Roach follows the titular character Dolores Roach as she returns to her New York neighborhood after a sixteen-year stint in prison. After returning, she finds out that everyone she knew is gone, including her family and boyfriend. Dolores then finds a place to stay with her friend Luis as she opens up a massage shop under his empanada store. Described as evoking Sweeney Todd themes, the Amazon series is set to bring the Gimlet podcast to visual life.

Currently, there is no announced cast for the upcoming series nor an estimated premiere date. In the meantime, interested members can listen to the first two seasons of the Gimlet podcast here
