ABC Picks Up Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ to Series and Renews ‘Agents of Shield’

The network has given a second season to Agents of SHIELD and also a series order to Agent Carter starring Hayley Atwell from Captain America.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the drama Agent Carter starring Hayley Atwell takes place a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The story follows Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) girlfriend Agent Carter while she builds her career as a secret agent during the time the hero is frozen in ice.

It’s 1946 and and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve),  Peggy must find a balance between doing administration work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark while she is trying to survive in America as a single woman after losing Steve Rogers – the love of her life.

The plot of the series is inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter. The series from ABC Studios and Marvel Entertainment have a script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley while Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters serve as executive producers/showrunners.

Meanwhile, ABC has also given a second season to Agents of SHIELD and this means that the network has now two Marvel shows scheduled for the next season. Even though the numbers for Agents of SHIELD  have not been that strong, the overall ratings have been good thanks to a significant DRV play, as noted by Deadline.
