Aaron Paul’s Drama ‘Blackmail’ Being Developed by NBC

NBC has officially bought the series Blackmail, a drama from Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, The Path) and brothers John and Thomas Sonntag.

Paul will serve as executive producer with the Sonntag brothers as writers. As Deadline reported, the project is centered on a young married couple who suffer a life-changing incident and decide to get back at the man responsible by threatening to reveal his infidelity to his fiancée. What ensues is a sinister turn-of-events and a dark game of cat-and-mouse that sets them on the path to becoming a power couple.

This drama from Universal TV marks the first TV sale for the Sonntag brothers, who have sold their feature spec Warden to New Line and are developing CTRL with Gidden Media. Paul will produce via his Lucid Road shingle.

Paul’s Lucid Road also has The Street set up at AMC and other projects at Universal TV.

Paul and the Sonntags are repped by UTA. The brothers are additionally handled by Mosaic and Jeff Frankel.

The 2016-2017 TV season has not kicked off yet, but NBC has already begun developing several dramas. Oscar winner Paul Haggis and former Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight are in the midst of developing Salvation for the network, and Gideon Raff is adapting the best-selling book Waking Lions.
