The 70th Emmy awards are finally here and it has been a fantastic year. According to CEO Hayma Washington, it has been another record-breaking year with more than 9,100 entries in 122 unique categories for the initial nomination round of voting. This is an exciting night for Game of Thrones (22 nominations), Saturday Night Live (21 nominations), and Westworld (21 nominations). There are also many first-time nominated actors/actresses such as Penelope Cruz, Issa Rae, Kenan Thompson, Yvonne Strahovski, and more. Stay tuned for updates. Michael Che and Colin Jost will be our hosts and it is going to be a hilarious ride no doubt.
5:08 Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson opened up the awards for us tonight. They opened by talking about how diversity has been much better among the nominees this year. To celebrate, they did a song- naturally. Sandra Oh was called out for making history for being the first Asian nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. They welcomed Kristin Bell, Tituss Burgess, Sterling K. Brown, and Andy Samberg into their song. As well as the “One of Each” dancers, and John Legend. The skit continued with hilarity and focus on diversity. Colin Jost and Michael Che then graced the stage for their opening monologue with lots of great jokes.
5:16 The award for “Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” goes to Henry Winkler for his role as “Gene Cousineau” in Barry.
5:25 Tracy Morgan and Jimmy Kimmel announced the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series”. Morgan making a hilarious joke that he’s only rooting for “the black people” including Millie Bobby Brown. The Emmy went to Alex Borstein for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
5:31 Millie Bobby Brown and Emilia Clark presented the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. The Emmy went to Amy Sherman-Palladino. Sandra Oh came on doing a funny skit with Andy Sandberg while announcing the Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. The award went to Amy Sherman-Palladino, making it her second win for the evening. Already it’s an exciting night for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
5:40 Tiffany Haddish and Angela Basset presented the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy series. The award going to Rachel Brosnahan for her role as “Miriam” in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series went to Bill Hader for his role as “Barry” in Barry.
5:52 SNL alum Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen joined the stage with Che and Jost as “Emmy Professionals” before the Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie was announced. The Emmy went to Merritt Wever for her role as “Mary Agnes” in Godless.
5:54 Supporting Actor in a Limited Series went to Jeff Daniels for his role as “Frank Griffin” in Godless.
5:15 Aidy Bryant and Bob Odenkirk presented the award for Outstanding Writing in Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special, which went to William Bridges and Charlie Brooker for USS Callister (Black Mirror).
6:19 Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon presented Betty White for her Lifetime Achievement Award, who looked lovely as ever. She was as funny and charming as she always is. Leslie Jones and RuPaul presented the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, which went to Regina King for her role as “Latrice Butler” in Seven Seconds. King almost couldn’t believe she had won, sitting stunned in her chair as Leslie Jones was screaming for celebratory joy in the background. She was the first woman of color to receive an award so far tonight.
The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series was presented by Rachel Brosnahan and Larry David. It went to Darren Criss for his role as “Andrew Cunanan” in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

The Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special went to John Mulaney. The Emmy for Oustanding Directing in a Variety Series went to Glenn Weiss, who in turn proposed to his girlfriend during his acceptance speech, wooing the crowd.

6:50 Samantha Bee and Taraji P. Henson presented the award for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, with the Emmy going to Peter Dinklage for his role as “Tyrion Lannister” in Game of Thrones.
6:53 The Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama series was presented by the stunning Elisabeth Moss and the ravishing Samira Wiley, both from the hit Hulu series A Handmaid’s Tale. The Emmy went to Thandie Newton for her role as “Maeve” in Westworld.
7:04 The Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series went to Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for The Americans. The Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series was presented by Hannah Gadsby, who had some really great jokes, and it went to Stephen Daldry for The Crown.
7:10 “The Fab Five” from the show Queer Eye presented the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The award went to Matthew Rhys for his role as “Philip Jennings” in The Americans.
7:14 The winner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series was presented by the dashing Sarah Paulson. The Emmy went to Claire Foy for her role as “Queen Elizabeth II” in Crown. You can check out her acceptance speech below.
Even though Sandra Oh didn’t win, she still made history and is an amazing actress and person, loved by many.
7:29 Rick and Morty presented the award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, something many were looking forward to. The winner being RuPaul’s Drag Race, with RuPaul accepting the award. A great win for a great show.
7:35 The Emmy for Oustanding Variety Sketch Series went to, of course, Saturday Night Live. Accepted by the great and legendary, Lorne Michaels. The popular sketch show going on its 44th season this September 29th with host Adam Driver and musical guest Kanye West.
7:38 The award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series goes to HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, with John Oliver accepting the Emmy.
7:42 The Emmy for Oustanding Limited Series goes to The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story with Ryan Murphy accepting the award.
7:52 The winner for Outstanding Comedy series was presented by the ever-so-funny Will Ferrell, who approached the mic out of breath in a funny bit. The Emmy went to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with Daniel Palladino accepting the award. This is the shows fourth win tonight.
