According to Deadline, ABC has picked up a new comedy pilot that is produced, directed by, and starring Zach Braff. As of now, the pilot is titled Start Up, although the title will be changed as Crackle has a drama series already dubbed StartUp.
Zach Braff is best known for his lead role in the popular comedic series Scrubs, which also aired on ABC. The new series picked up by ABC will be a pit of a Scrubs reunion, in fact, as it will also be written and co-produced by Matt Tarses, who served as a producer on Scrubs. Inspired by a podcast of the same name, the new ABC series will star Braff as Alex Schuman, who is a radio journalist and family man who quits his job to start his own company. Trouble arises when he realizes it might not be quite as easy as he first expected.
Also set to star in the show will be Tiya Sircar (The Internship, Vampire Diaries) and Michael Imperioli (Goodfellas, The Sopranos). Yesterday Braff shared a photo on Twitter of he and Tarses taking a break while editing the pilot episode.
Though Braff is perhaps best known for Scrubs, after the iconic series ended its run on television Braff turned to a slightly different career path and dedicated himself to writing, directing, and starring in a number of indie film projects such as Garden State (2004) and Wish I Was Here (2014). This new series marks his return as a lead actor in a television series. An air date has not yet been announced for the ABC comedy.
