[SPOILER] ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Releases Trailer For Third Season

The battle for Middle-earth has begun. On Wednesday, Prime Video uploaded the official trailer for season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it was chock-full of scenes from the upcoming battles.

Five years have passed since the Eregion, and Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers (Medici, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart), and his army march across the land. Middle-earth is at war. Only isolated pockets of resistance remain, including Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves hide deep in their mines, and the realms of Lindon and Rivendell, where the Elves are kept safe by their Three Rings. In Barad-dûr, located deep in Mordor, Sauron plots to take over the last of the free lands of Middle-earth. To do so, he begins working on his most powerful weapon yet: One Ring to rule them all. All of the free peoples of Middle-earth — Men, Dwarves, Elves, and Wizards — must band together if they are to survive Sauron’s latest onslaught.

“In the thrilling new trailer, all the peoples of Middle-earth are engaged in the heroic struggle against Sauron and his army of Orcs,” the logline for the trailer reads. “His terrifying Ring-servants, the Nazgnagôl, roam Middle-earth clad in black armor as tensions rise among the Elves trying desperately to hold the front lines; familial ties are strained among the Dwarves in Khazad-dûm; political factions push the island kingdom of Númenor to the brink of civil war; and in the eastern lands of Rhûn, Gandalf enlists his full powers of magic and persuasion as he fights to turn the tide of impending darkness.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will release four episodes on November 11, followed by two more on November 18, and then concluding the season with two more episodes on November 25. New faces will be joining the cast, including Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Stranger Things) as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, and Eddie Marsan (Midas Man, Clayface) as Thrain, King Durin IV’s older brother. At San Diego Comic-Con, it was also announced that Andrew Richardson (The Independent, Ponies) would be joining the cast as Isildur’s brother and Elendil’s younger son Anarion; Adam Young (Masters of the Air, Sex Education) would be joining as the Orc Marnûkh; and Simon Pegg (The Boys, Hot Fuzz) would be joining as the voice of a Balrog.
