Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick Star in Facebook Watch’s Animated Comedy ‘Human Discoveries’

Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick will voice act in the upcoming animated comedy Human Discoveries on Facebook Watch. The trailer for the series has just been released and can be seen below. Efron and Kendrick will also serve as executive producers on the show. The first three episodes will be available July 16 at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.

The cast includes Zac Efron (Gary), Anna Kendrick (Jane), Lamorne Morris (Trog), Jillian Bell (Minerva), and Paul Scheer (Ugg), who voice act as a group of characters from prehistoric times that becomes friends and explore life beyond hunting and gathering. In this journey, they discover everything from alcohol to fire and fashion. They even explore the realms of relationships and becoming monogamous.

In each of the episodes, the tribe makes some sort of new discovery, both socially and scientifically, exploring both the benefits and drawbacks of each. In the first episode, the group is threatened by a tiger, which they fight off after they discover fire. Jane also begins fighting for gender equality. In the second episode, they discover “free time” and how it can lead to creativity and ideas. They also discover how to make alcohol and get wasted. The third episode involves the hypnotizing nature of fire (reminiscent of the current phone addiction) and how fire needs dry wood to keep lit. The fourth episode involves setting boundaries in relationships and how Gary defines monogamy for the clan. Minerva also learns how to make knives instead of spears.

The series was created by Chris Bruno and David Howard Lee, who have been friends since childhood. The idea for the series was born when the two were eating popcorn and wondered where the idea for sparking a fire first originated. The series is produced by ShadowMachine, who also produced the Bojack Horseman series, as well as Ninja’s Runnin’ Wild, Zac Efron’s production company.

Recurring guests on the series include Ed Begley Jr., Lisa Kudrow, Sam Richardson, Stephanie Beatriz, and James Adomian.
