‘Young Sheldon’ Will Join ‘The Big Bang Theory’ On HBO Max

HBO Max has recently acquired the streaming rights to The Big Bang Theory’s spinoff Young Sheldon, Variety claims. The newly launched WarnerMedia platform landed a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution which will now house both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory.

Created by Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men, Mike and Molly ) and Steven Molaro (The Class, Complete Savages), Young Sheldon features Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies, The Glass Castle) as the younger version of Sheldon Cooper, Jim Parsons’ (Home, Hidden Figures) character from The Big Bang Theory. The young Sheldon portrayed in the show is a “once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science who is growing up in East Texas,” Variety asserts.

While the news of this deal comes ten months after HBO Max acquired The Big Bang Theory, Kevin Reilly, HBO Max’s chief content officer and president of TNT, TBS and TruTV feels fulfilled now that HBO Max’s “Big Bang offering is complete,” he mentioned in quote on Variety. He also states that the streaming company is “proud to be the home of this beloved franchise and the place where new and existing fans can learn about young Sheldon Cooper’s roots.”

Lorre and Molaro are also ecstatic about the shows uniting on HBO Max. They said in statement on Variety that they are “so pleased that Young Sheldon will once again be reunited with his future self on HBO Max, and we are excited for fans, new and old, to be able to binge both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon for the first time.”

Talents on Young Sheldon include Parsons as the voice of Sheldon, Zoe Perry (The Family, Scandal), Lance Barber (Gangster Squad, Leatherheads), Montana Jordan (The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, Stars in the House), Raegan Revord (Wish Upon, Modern Family), and Annie Potts (Ghostbusters, Pretty in Pink). Executive producers involved on the show are Lorre, Molaro, Parsons, Steve Holland (Rules of Engagement, All That) and Todd Spiewak (Special, Equal). The show hails from Chuck Lorre Productions in tandem with Warner Bros. Television and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

Young Sheldon completed its third season this past April and has been renewed for a fourth season. There are currently no details regarding the pending fourth season’s development.
