Writer For Disney’s ‘Willow’ Addresses The Removal Of The Series From Platform

According to Comicbook, Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story), writer for Disney+’s Willow series, addressed the removal of the series from the platform. Many fans of the series were incredibly disappointed over the series not being green light for another season but now they are even more devastated as the series will be removed from Disney+ altogether. Kasdan took to Twitter to explain to fans that this will not be the end of the series.

Kasdan shared on Twitter, “I’ve been quiet on this news that Willow is leaving Disney+ ’cause… I’m kinda into it. I grew up at a time when Disney movies were periodically re-released and not available to own, and it made them… more special. I worry about many things…but NONE of them are that Willow will never be available again, either on Disney+ or perhaps… someplace else, & ya never know where that could lead… stranger things have happened. So grateful for all the love and enthusiasm; it’s truly what keeps these worlds alive.”

Below is Kasdan’s full Twitter post.

According to Comicbook, it is very difficult to know if Kasdan has inside information of what exactly will be the future of the series. In March the entire Willow cast was released from their contracts with Disney which signified to many that the series was truly canceled.

During a statement Kasdan explained, “A decision was made last week to release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year. With all the TV and movies in production around the world, it feels unfair to limit an actor’s availability without a clear sense of when you’re going to need them again. It’s further triviliased by the simple reality that the scripts we’ve been working on require just as many actors with whom no such contractual hold exists.”

He continued, ”But here’s what’s equally true: with the enthusiastic and unwavering support of Lucasfilm, and Disney, we’ve developed and written what we hope is a brain-meltingly fun, richer, darker, and better VOLUME II, which builds on the characters and story of our first eight chapters The Wyrm survives!”

Willow is a sequel television series based on the 1988 film produced by Lucasfilm. It includes a group of heroes who set off on a dangerous quest where they face their inner demons as they try to come together to save the world. The series was recently canceled and is now being removed from Disney+ alongside series such as Big Shot, Turner & Hooch, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and many more.
