Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell to Lead in New Netflix Medical Drama Series ‘Pulse’

According to Deadline, Willa Fitzgerald (The Fall of the House of Usher, Dare Me) and Colin Woodell (The Continental, The Flight Attendant) have been selected as the stars for Pulse, Netflix’s inaugural original medical procedural. They will be joining Justina Machado (Six Feet Under, One Day at a Time), who was previously announced as part of the cast. Pulse is helmed by first-time creator Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer, Hawaii Five-0), who also acts as the showrunner and executive producer alongside industry veteran Carlton Cuse (Lost, Tom Clancey’s Jack Ryan).

Within Pulse, as the team at Miami’s bustling Level 1 Trauma Center tackles urgent medical crises, young ER doctor Danny Simms (played by Fitzgerald) finds herself unexpectedly elevated to the position of Chief Resident amid the aftermath of her own controversial romantic relationship.

Upon her introduction, Willa Fitzgerald’s character, Danielle “Danny” Simms, is depicted as a third-year resident specializing in Emergency Medicine at Maguire Hospital in Miami. Colin Woodell takes on the role of Xander Phillips. Originating from one of Miami’s influential medical lineages, Xander holds the position of Chief Resident of Emergency Medicine at Maguire Hospital. Throughout the series, viewers delve into the intricacies of both Xander and Danny’s professional collaboration and their evolving romantic relationship following Danny’s promotion. With an air of confidence and charm, Xander commands respect as a leader, yet he grapples with the complexities arising from their unconventional romance

Machado portrays Natalie Cruz, a highly intelligent and politically astute doctor who holds the dual responsibilities of overseeing administration and medical operations as the Chair of Surgery and Emergency Medicine.

Bradley Garner (Teen Wolf: The Movie, Heathers), Emma Forman (Locke & Key, Pure Genius), and Michael Klick (Homeland, 24) are also credited as executive producers. Kate Dennis (Offspring, The Handmaid’s Tale) will fulfill the roles of director and executive producer for episodes one and two.

In Mike Flanagan’s (The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald’s Game) latest Netflix limited series The Fall of the House of Usher, Fitzgerald captivated audiences with her portrayal of Young Madeline, earning herself a Critics Choice Award nomination. Her talent extends across various platforms, including Prime Video’s Reacher and her iconic role as Emma Duval in MTV’s Scream: The TV Series. Upcoming projects include starring roles in Miramax’s feature Strange Darling, the indie film Joe Baby, and David Mackenzie’s (Starred Up, Hell or High Water) Relay. Fitzgerald was recently featured in the thriller Desperation Road and is represented by Untitled Entertainment, Paradigm, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Woodell portrayed a younger version of Winston Scott in The Continental: From The World Of John Wick, a miniseries exploring the origins of the John Wick universe. His credits also include starring roles in USA’s The Purge, and significant recurring roles in Showtime’s Masters of Sex and ABC/Netflix’s Designated Survivor. As for  what’s upcoming for the actor, Woodell will portray Buzz Aldrin in the Greg Berlanti-directed (Dawson’s Creek, Love, Simon) feature Project Artemis for Sony/Apple, alongside Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Step Up) and Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, The Avengers).
