A reimagining of a classic tale, along the same lines as Alice and Tin Man, is in the works at SyFy. Deadline reports that the network has ordered a futuristic Wizard of Oz miniseries, to be executive produced by Timur Bekmambetov.
Titled Warriors of Oz, the series tells the story of a present-day warrior who is transported into a post-apocalyptic future Oz, where he must defeat the evil wizard. Three other warriors, named Brainless, Heartless and Coward, will accompany him on his mission.
Bekmambetov has directed a number of films, including “Wanted” and last year’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Warriors of Oz will mark his first foray into television in over a decade. Though he is currently only slated to produce the miniseries, it is likely that he will also direct.
