USA Network Cancels ‘The Purge’ and ‘Treadstone’

Two of the USA Network’s dramas have been canceled in The Purge and Treadstone, according to Deadline. These two series are in addition to another recent cancelation from the network in the drama Dare Me. The two shows were both based on successful film franchises with The Purge being an adaptation from Purge films while Treadstone was a television series based on Jason Bourne and the subsequent Bourne film franchise. At the time of their cancellations, The Purge produced two full seasons under the network and Treadstone concluded its run with a sole season.

The Purge followed the same premise as the movies it is derived from with a government that allows an annual twelve-hour gap when all crime is legal. The anthology series included the likes of Gabriel Chavarria (East Los High), Colin Woodell (Unfriended: Dark Web), Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie), Fiona Dourif (Shameless), and William Baldwin (Flatliners). Created by James DeMonaco (Jack), the program amassed twenty episodes during its run.

Treadstone took elements from the existing Bourne movies and developed a show that followed Operation Treadstone, a CIA program that transformed its recruits into high-level assassins. The show’s cast included the likes of Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Tracy Ifeachor (The Originals), Omar Metwally (The Affair), Brian J. Smith (Sense8), and Han Hyo-Joo (Cold Eyes). The program was created and developed by Tim Kring (Heroes) and ran for a total of ten episodes. However, the series was unable to attract large viewership nor critical acclaim.
