Upcoming Drama Series ‘The Never Game’ Given CBS Pilot Order

The upcoming drama series The Never Game has been given a pilot order from CBS, according to Deadline. The drama will be a series adaptation of Jeffery Deaver’s (The Bone Collector) novel of the same name.

The series, which was given a pilot production commitment last year, will star and be executive produced by Justin Hartley (This Is Us). Ken Olin (Brothers & Sisters) will direct and executive produce as well. Other executive producers for the project include Roxy Olin (Sleepy Hollow), Julianna LaRosa (NCIS), and author Ben Winters (The Last Policeman).

Production will not be starting right away due to Hartley’s commitment to the final season of This Is Us, according to Deadline. The site also reported that the show had gone through change in writers this past spring, with Winters replacing Michael Cooney (Identity), who was attached to The Never Game since the show was sold last fall. Winters delivered his script to CBS last week, which was well-received by the CBS brass, per Deadline.

Deadline provided a description of the upcoming series: “The Never Game features Hartley as lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw, who roams the country as a ‘reward seeker,’ using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement to solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family.”

Hartley released a statement on starring in the upcoming drama when the show was first announced, per Deadline.

“I couldn’t be happier that The Never Game is coming to CBS, and that Colter Shaw will be brought to life on screen soon,” Hartley said. “When I read the book, I was immediately drawn to the character and the story; developing this project with Ken has been a true labor of love. Colter is going to kick some serious ass, and I can’t wait for audiences to meet him.”
