‘Turner & Hooch’ Reboot TV Series Adds to Disney+’s Growing Library

The late 1980s film Turner & Hooch, which starred a young Tom Hanks and an adorable pooch, is now being rebooted for its own streaming television series on Disney+. The film, a classic in the buddy-cop genre, acted as one of the predecessors along with Splash and Big for Hanks’ career as a romantic comedy and Academy Award-nominated and winning actor throughout the 1990s to the present. The film made audiences laugh and cry at the time of its release and even in present-day viewing and the announcement for its surprise return through the television medium has been welcomed with open arms.

The announcement of the reboot series also came paired with the announcement of Josh Peck starring as Detective Scott Turner, the role made famous by hanks. Peck was first introduced to the public eye in the early 2000s as a child actor on The Amanda Show with Amanda Bynes and later with the main role on Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh with costar Drake Bell. Since then, Peck has appeared on various network comedies in guest roles or main roles such as his partnership with John Stamos on Fox’s Grandfathered, in addition to a voice role as Eddie in the past three installments of the animated Ice Age film franchise. He has also amassed quite the following through various social media platforms like the now-extinct Vine app and his personal YouTube channel

Another announcement for the Disney streaming platform suggests that Disney+ will continue to add original content to its archives of past and present Disney shows on top of Jon Favreau’s hit The Mandalorian. As more and more networks begin to introduce their own forms of streaming services such as NBC with its Peacock service, Disney’s announcement for another original program suggests it will continue to announce new and exciting series throughout its first year. This announcement is good news for Disney fans as excitement for future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects on the platform will only coincide with the excitement behind this 80s revival starring a familiar face.
