According to CNN, the South Park creators Matt Stone (Organzmo, Team America: World Police) and Trey Parker (Despicable Me 3, BASEketball) brought their show back with a fiery return on Wednesday. The premiere slammed President Donald Trump and the parent company of the network that airs their popular animated series, Paramount.
The cause of the Season 27 premiere delay revolved around a Trump character suing residents of South Park for $5 billion following their protests against Jesus appearing in local schools, in addition to the ending of “wokeness,” CNN adds.
The Jesus character states, “I didn’t want to come back and be in the school, but I had to because it was part of a lawsuit and the agreement with Paramount,” in reference to the litigation around the pending sale of Comedy Central’s parent company, CNN notes.
CNN quotes Jesus, “You guys saw what happened to CBS? Well, guess who owns CBS? Paramount. You really want to end up like Colbert? You guys got to stop being stupid,” and then references the Trump character. “He also has the power to sue and take bribes and he can do anything to anyone. It’s the f**king president, dude… South Park is over.”
The town has agreed to settle and create pro-Trump PSAs. Meanwhile in the episode, the Trump character is depicted as a sensitive bully who threatens to sue or tariff anybody who disagrees with him. One scene superimposes a picture of the president over animation, portraying Trump in bed with Satan, CNN reports.
The Satan character tells the Trump character, “It’s weird that whenever it comes up, you just tell everyone to relax,” in reference to the Epstein case, as mentioned by CNN.
CNN states that the more longstanding “South Park” viewers and fans will remember that creators did something similar in 1999, when they portrayed Saddam Hussein in a relationship with Satan. In Wednesday’s episode, Stan tells the trump character that he reminds him of a guy he used to date, drawing reference to Hussein.
Taylor Rodgers, the White House spokesperson has downplayed the episode in a statement to CNN; “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention.” She added, “President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history – and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s hot streak.”
Weeks ago, Stone and Parker expressed their discontent with the potential acquisition of Paramount Global by Skydance Media and the impact it would have on their contract negotiations, CNN mentions.
In a post on social media, they wrote: “This merger is a s**tshow and it’s f**king up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow,” CNN adds.
The season premiere this week occurred simultaneously with an announcement that the two creators reached a $1.5 billion deal to stream all “South Park” episodes on Paramount+, as well as an order for 50 more episodes to air on Comedy Central, CNN notes.
An individual familiar with this matter confirmed with CNN the $1.5 billion valuation for the “South Park” streaming deal.
