Tribeca Film Festival Will Host the World Premiere of ‘X-Men ’97’ Season Two

Collider reports that Disney+ hit revival series X-Men ’97 will make its debut exclusively at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on June 13th. This is only the date for the screener, as the streaming debut has yet to be released.  Insiders expect the retro hand-drawn style Marvel cartoon to be available around late July or early August of this year.

According to IGN, if fans are looking for a taste of the throwback Marvel X-Men universe to hold them over until then, they needn’t look any further than the recent announcement that Marvel Comics will be releasing a new project on June 3rd titled X-Men ’97 Season Two. This comic book will look to bridge the story line between the two seasons of the animated series that has now become Marvel’s highest-rated series.  It will mainly focus on an alternative timeline of the mutant heroes who are still stuck in the 90’s.

The plot of the upcoming season will pick up right where last season’s finale ended.  The team is currently scattered throughout history, leaving the new season set up for some great contrast of settings. Between Ancient Egypt, the Year 3960, and the present day in the show, our heroes will have to apply some divide and conquer tactics if they are hoping to be successful until they are reunited. Other big reveals for next season include the introduction of two new “X-Teams,” with X-Factor being officially named. New characters like Polaris and Vulcan are set to make debuts.

Fans will be excited to hear that the show has already been renewed for season three, which happens to already be deep in production. With the upcoming season narratives leaning heavily into Age of the Apocalypse and Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix comic book arcs, there will be a whirlwind of lore to explore.
