Tony Curran Joins ‘The Flash’ Season Eight as Despero

Deadline has confirmed that Tony Curran (Ray Donovan) has joined The Flash as the supervillain Despero. He is currently filming episodes for the eighth season.

Curran is best known for his roles on Showtime’s Your Honor and Ray Donovan. He also appeared in films such as Blade IIThe League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and The Adventures of Tintin.

In the comics, Despero is an alien tyrant with a genius-level intellect and is a known adversary to the Justice League. The character first debuted in Justice League of America #1 in 1960 and was created by Gardner Fox (Action Comics) and artist Mike Sekowsky (The Brave and the Bold).

According to Deadline, the character will appear in The Flash as a powerful and intelligent alien with telepathic powers who leaves his homeworld, Kalanor, under mysterious circumstances. He will face a deadly mission on Earth, whose outcome will decide the fate of humanity and put him at odds with Team Flash.

The eighth season of The Flash will feature five-part premiere, title “Armageddon”, which was announced Wednesday. The premiere event will feature numerous guest stars from The CW’s Arrowverse, including Javica Leslie (Batwoman) as Batwoman, Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as Black Lightning, and Brandon Routh (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as The Atom. Tom Cavanaugh (Yogi Bear) and Neal McDonough (The 100) will reprise their roles as Reverse Flash and Damien Darhk, respectively.

The Flash season eight will premiere on November 16 on The CW.
