Tom Hiddleston Confirmed as Actor in Disney+ ‘Loki’ Series

With the imminent Disney+ streaming service, Marvel Studios and Disney have announced some upcoming spinoff series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of which is the highly-anticipated Loki. With the announcement came the confirmation that Tom Hiddleston would play the popular villain. However, conflicting accounts claimed that this was not true, and that Hiddleston would only play a minimal role in the series.

Nevertheless, Alan Horn, film chief for Disney, dispelled those rumors and confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Hiddleston will, in fact, play Loki. In the interview concerning Disney+, Horn revealed that, “Marvel has a few things — we’re doing [a series] with Tom Hiddleston playing the Loki character.”

Concerning the setting, it has been rumored that Loki will be placed during different times in the history of humankind. These points in time will be related to when Loki, God of Mischief, supposedly influenced the outcome of certain situations. It has also been conjectured that Hiddleston’s Loki will act both as narrator and star of the series, as he shapeshifts into other various characters, some being a child version or female version of Loki. This possibility has been brought about by a prior interview with Kevin Feige, architect of MCU. “Disney+ is, yes,” Feige confirmed. “Which is another exciting avenue and another exciting thing about being at this place at this time and goes back to the amount of characters we have and the amount of stories we could tell… When we announced ten movies and people asked ‘Well what about these other things?’ the previous stance would be ‘We only have a certain number of slots to make movies per year.’ That’s still true but we have another outlet that I think will be very unique and very special.”

Currently, Marvel series are still available for streaming on Netflix but will be moved to Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, Disney+, towards the end of 2019. Marvel fans can expect several movies to roll out within the next few months, such as Captain Marvel on March 8th, Avengers: Endgame on April 26th, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th.
