Via Variety, actress and comedienne Cobie Smulders has been confirmed to star as the female lead in ABC’s adaptation of Greg Rucka’s graphic novel, Stumptown. Rucka being known as a writer on comic such as: Action Comics, Batwoman, Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC.

Stumptown‘s original graphic novel series, begins in medias res with its lead’s attempted murder and the subsequent events leading up to her attack, as she attempts to track down the granddaughter of a casino owner she owes money to. Smulders will play that very same lead, as Dex Parios, a clever Army veteran who investigates a variety of cases in her hometown of Portland, Oregon.

“With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people’s messes with a blind eye toward her own,” the series’ official log line teases. After earning a pilot order last month, the series will be headed by Jason Richman (Mercy Street, Detroit 1-8-7), who will also take on executive producer duties.

Audiences will know Smulders as agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its subsequent spin offs and adaptations such as  ABC’s Marvel series Agents of SHIELD and the Oscar-winning animated feature film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.

This will also be the actress’ first starring network role, since playing the quirky Robin Scherbatsky on CBS’ fan favorite sitcom How I Met Your Mother; a role she played for all nine seasons. She also joined fellow comedians Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage and Billy Eichner in the ensemble cast of Netflix’s Friends From College, which was just announced to be cancelled after a two season run.
