Tim Allen Returning To ‘The Santa Clause’ Franchise In Disney Plus Series

Tim Allen (Toy Story, Home Improvement) is set to return as the face of Christmas himself, Santa Claus, in Disney Plus’s sequel series to their original trilogy of Christmas movies. The first movie, The Santa Clause, premiered in theaters in 1994 and spawned two sequels, the final movie releasing in 2006.

The movies center around Allen’s character, Scott Calvin, as he takes on the responsibilities of Santa Claus after one fateful night that transforms the ordinary business man into the iconic Christmas character. Reportedly, this new show will follow Scott Calvin as he nears his 65th birthday and grapples with continuing his career as Santa or going back to an ordinary life with his family.

Joining Allen on this project, which is working under the title The Santa Clause for the moment, is Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family). Burditt will serve as executive producer to the show alongside Allen, and the two already have a positive working relationship as Burditt also executive produced Allen’s latest sitcom, Last Man Standing.

Production is set to take place in March of this year in Los Angeles. This is only one of the few holiday reboots Disney Plus has released, the most recent being their latest addition to the Home Alone franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone.

An exact release date has not been given for the show, but in true Disney fashion it is reasonable to assume the media giant will try to have this show released just in time for the holidays.
