‘The Get Down’ Drops Teaser Trailer, Release Date

Thanks to its unique viewer-creator experience, Netflix is able to offer a variety of different shows in a variety of different formats. This can be seen in the weekly installments of Chelsea, or the standard season-long drops of shows like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, or in the split season of The Get Down.

In the case of The Get Down, the first half of season one premiered on the streaming service in August of 2016. The series, written and directed by the visually-centric Baz Luhrmann, documented the ascent of a hip-hop supergroup entitled The Get Down Brothers. Set in the Bronx on the precipice of hip-hop hype (1977), The Get Down earned positive critic feedback and anticipation for the second half of the season.

According to Indiewire, that time is now winding down. The Get Down released a teaser trailer for the second half of season one, eight months after the release of Part One. The second half of the season is set an entire year after Part One, bringing time and new growth to the group in the Bronx. The teaser trailer promises new musical threats, cultural revolutions, conflicts on the streets and in record labels, but overall promises to keep the love of Books (Justice Smith) and Mylene (Herizen F. Guardiola) going strong.

The Get Down Part Two is available to stream on April 7, but you can see the teaser trailer below:

I earned a degree in English with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Georgia in 2017, and am using my love of writing and television to share the stories of what's happening in the television industry.
