After announcing his abrupt departure from the nightly series, Trevor Noah (Born A Crime) has set final day as host for the long-running news show, The Daily Show, at Comedy Central. Deadline reports the host will leave his post on Thursday, December 8. Noah has served as the face of the Emmy-winning series for the past seven years.
The beloved comedian who took on the great task of filling the original host, Jon Stewart’s (The Problem with Jon Stewart), seat after twelve years surprised fans and Paramount executives with his decision to leave the show during a Thursday taping last month. In the message given near the end of the episode, Noah expressed his gratitude for the time spent leading the nightly show, but felt “my time is up.”
“Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” Chris McCarthy stated via Deadline. Serving as President and CEO of Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, McCarthy and Comedy Central plan to continue the show as is for the immediate future.
With no permanent host yet announced, Deadline reports The Daily Show will return with new episodes on Tuesday, January 17. This of course will be well after Noah’s departure and the series’ coverage of the midterms. The show will also host a tribute episode on December 5, celebrating Noah’s best moments from his tenure as host.
“Chris [McCarthy] has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family,” Noah said via Deadline. “I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.”
In addition to hosting the show, Noah served as executive producer via Deadline. He shared this responsibility with co-showrunners Jen Flanz (Jordan Klepper Fingers the Globe: Hungary for Democracy) and Jill Katz (The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear).
