The CW’s ‘The Winchesters’ Cancelled After One Season

The hunt is over. According to Deadline, The CW has decided not to proceed with second season for the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters. The news doesn’t come as surprise since the show was among the long-shot renewal prospects after Nexstar took over The CW.

According to Deadline, out of the ongoing scripted series at The CW, only All American and Walker have been renewed for new seasons while The Winchesters, Kung Fu, and Walker: Independence have been canceled in the last week. Three series are awaiting the decision: Superman & Lois, All American: Homecoming, and Gotham Knights

But not all hope is lost for The Winchesters. Knowing the unlikeliness of being renewed at The CW, the studio behind the show has been preparing to look for new streaming that could buy the series. According to Deadline, the studio plans to be aggressive in its efforts.

It is likely that Jensen Ackles (The Boys, Big Sky), one of the executive producers and Supernatural alum, will ask the fans for support in a “save the show” campaign that could help the series be picked up by a new outlet.

The Winchesters stars Meg Donnelly (Zombies, Pandemica) as Mary Campbell; Drake Rodger (Mantra, Not Alone) as John Winchester; Nida Khurshid (Adversity, Danger Force) as Latika Desai; newcomer Jojo Fleites as Carlos Cervantes; Demetria McKinney (House of Payne, A House Divided) as Ada Monroe; Bianca Kajilich (Undatable, Rules of Engagement) as Millie Winchester; Tom Welling (Smallville, Cheaper by the Dozen) as Samuel Campbell; and Bridget Regan (Jane the Virgin, The Last Ship) as Rockin’ Roxy.

The show is a prequel to the popular CW show Supernatural that starred Ackles and Jared Padalecki (Walker, Gilmore Girls) as Dean and Sam Winchester. The Winchesters, narrated by Ackles, follows the untold love story of John and Mary, who will eventually become the parents of Sam and Dean, as they hunt down the monsters bothering the quiet town of Lawrence, Kansas. With the help of Carlos and Latika, John and Mary must stop the interdimensional monsters that Mary’s father Samuel was looking for when he went missing.

The Winchesters is executive produced by Robbie Thompson (Supernatural, Cursed), newcomer Danneel Ackles, Glen Winter (Stargirl, Doom Patrol), David H. Goodman (Once Upon a Time, Amazing Stories), and John Showalter (Supernatural, Timeless), alongside Jensen Ackles.

The Winchesters is available to stream on The CW and HBO Max. All fifteen seasons of Supernatural are available to watch on Netflix.
