The CW picks up a new post-apocalyptic drama: the 100

The CW network is the home for a vast spectrum of shows from reality shows such as America’s Next Top Model to supernatural dramas including the Vampire Diaries.

CW has announced the pick up of a new post-apocalyptic drama: the 100. On its website, CW tells that the series takes place 97 years after a nuclear war. In order to see whether or not Earth is once again habitable, the survivors send a group of 100 juveniles back to Earth. According to Indiewire, the survivors observe from a spaceship that is orbiting around the deserted Earth.

Indiewire also reports that the 100 is based off an upcoming novel written by Kass Morgan. This new drama is produced by Warner Bros Television and Alloy Entertainment. The pilot was directed by Bahrat Nalluri, and was created by Jason Rothenberg. Rothenberg is also an executive producer for the show, along with Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

The 100 comprises of a cast including Isaiah Washington who plays Jaha, the leader of the survivors who are currently orbiting the Earth. Washington will be joined in the show by Henry Ian Cusick, Bob Morley, Eli Goree, Marie Avgeropoulos and Eliza Taylor.
