The CW Network Pulls the Plug on Two Acquired Series ‘Run the Burbs’ and ‘Everyone Else Burns’

In a recent announcement, the CW network announced the cancellation of two acquired series. According to TV Line, a Canadian sitcom, Run the Burbs, and a British comedy, Everyone Else Burns, have seen the chopping block. Through Nov. 30, both series will be replaced with two other shows during CW’s Thursday lineup.

Both comedies have been substituted with re-runs of the comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Great American Joke Off. At this time, CW’s Thursday night lineup remains the same with the comedy series Son of a Critch and the sitcom entitled Children Ruin Everything.

The cancellation of Everyone Else Burns came as a surprise when the network greenlit a second season of the series late last month. Yet, the CW’s strategy of implementing foreign shows into the mix has been a hit or miss.

For instance, the Australian-acquired shows entitled Bump and Barons were canceled during their second and first season, respectively. Other notable mentions that were canceled just after two episodes each are Down to Earth With Zac Efron and Fantastic Friends starring the Harry Potter twins James and Oliver Phelps (Kingdom, A Mind’s Eye.)

Along with its current Thursday night lineup, some other acquired series will still be a part of the autumn/winter lineup, like The Chosen, Sullivan’s Crossing and Spencer Sisters. Other shows, like the German sci-fi entitled The Swarm, just completed its eight-episode run.

Run the Burbs follows the Phams, who are regarded as a young and bold Vietnamese-South Asian family as they explore different ways to live life to the fullest “while changing the way we think about contemporary family values and life in the burbs,” the official logline of the series states. Everyone Else Burns is based around the Lewises family (an extremely religious family) who thought the world would end within a decade.
